Evaluation of wound healing of diabetic foot ulcers in a prospective clinical trial using a synthetic hybrid-scale fiber matrix

ObjectiveChronic diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) often experience inadequate healing rates, and alternatives to existing therapies are needed improve the success of wound healing. The objective this clinical study (clinicaltrials.gov number NCT03312595) was evaluate outcomes using a synthetic hybrid-scale fiber matrix for treatment DFUs.MethodsIn prospective multi-center study, chronic DFUs were treated with matrix. Post-application, wounds examined weekly progression tissue up 12 weeks.ResultsTwenty-four patients completed included in analysis. At end 12-week period, 18 24 (75%) reported complete closure. average reduction surface area over weeks 96% ± 10%. For that healed, time closure 6.4 2.5 weeks. resulted significant non-healing unresponsive at least one previous advanced care modality. incidence present observed be notably greater than standard methods comparable other therapies.ConclusionsThe findings suggest may viable alternative modalities DFUs.Level EvidenceLevel II
